Old Home Day Celebration & Parade

Saturday, July 3, 2010

Bring the family to the historic village of Franconia and experience an old time Fourth of July celebration. Watch the parade on Main Street, browse through the flea market tables, and compete in the famous Rubber Duck Race along the scenic Gale River. After a full day of activities, what better way to spend a balmy summer evening than listening to music outdoors, under the stars. To make the celebration complete, enjoy the magic of the fireworks display.  The Old Home Day Celebration and Parade for the Towns of Franconia, Sugar Hill, and Easton is a long standing tradition that you won't want to miss.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS OF THE DAY

 8:00 - 10:30am -     Pancake Breakfast- Franconia Community Church
                               Blueberry & Plain - $6.00 adults / $4.00 children

8:00 & 9:00am -       Franconia Scramble (5-10 K race) Walkers and Runners.  Walkers start at
                               8:30 and runners at 9:00am.  Starts at Franconia Village House, Main St.,
                               ending at the Dow Field.  Sponsored by Profile High School Class of 2013

9:00am - 1:00pm -   Lafayette Lions Flea Market- Lawn of the Community Church

9:00am - 2:30pm -   Gale River Co-op Yard Sale next to the Town Hall

9:00am - 4:00pm -   10th Annual Summer Art Show- at Peabody & Smith Realty

10:00am - 2:00pm -  Book Sale - Abbie Greenleaf Library, Main St. Franconia

10:00 - 11:00am -    Children's Recreational Activities on the Dow Field by the Franconia-

                               decorating & more....

10:30 - 11:00am -    Mr. Phil Magic Show sponsored by Peabody & Smith Realty
                               on the Dow Field

11:00am - Noon -     Mr. Phil Balloon Twisting - on the Dow Field
 
11:00am on -           Fireman's Barbeque - Franconia Town Hall, sponsored by 
                               Franconia Fire Department
 
12 Noon - 1:00pm -  Lafayette Lions 50/50 Giant Duck Race on the Gale River to benefit local 
                               charity & Scholarship Fund for local high school graduates.

12:30pm - LOCAL HEROES APPRECIATION AWARDS at the Reviewing Stand, Town Hall
                Honoring Police Chiefs Mark Montminy (Franconia), Dave Wentworth (Sugar Hill)
                and their Departments, Fire Chiefs Rich McLachlin (Franconia), Allan Clark
                (Sugar Hill), Butch Casey (Easton) and their Departments, EMT Director Paul
                Smucker and Responders, Gold Medal winners Olympic Champion Bode Miller
                and 3-time X-Game Gold Medalist Tyler Walker, represented by their mothers and
                family, and the Grand Marshal Military Heroes.

1:00pm -  OLD HOME DAY PARADE along Main Street Franconia 
                Theme: "Honoring Local Heroes"
                Grand Marshals -Veteran's of World War II and miltary hero Bonnie Young. 

3:00pm -   Famous GREAT DUCK Sweepstakes RACE on the Gale River
                Benefit of the Lafayette Lions Club Annual $3,000. Scholarship Fund
 
7:00 - 9:00pm -        Concert at the Gazebo on the Dow featuring Leap Frog Jazz 

9:15pm -   FIREWORKS! on the Dow Field (after dark)
                Donations to the Recreation Department welcomed for the concert & fireworks

This celebration is organized by the Lafayette Lions Club that serves Franconia, Easton and Sugar Hill. The objective of the Lafayette Lions is to raise money for scholarships which are awarded to graduating seniors of Profile High School from Easton, Sugar Hill and Franconia.  Proceeds from the Duck Races fund the "Roger Aldrich Valedictorian Award", "The Silver Scholarship" and a Four-year Scholarship.  The Lions also support numerous charity programs throughout the  year including eye and hearing exams, glasses and support for families at Christmas. 

 Tickets for the Duck Race may be obtained by contacting a member of the Lafayette Lions Club, from Bob's Mobil Service and the Fraanconia Notch Chamber of Commerce Welcome Center. If you are unable to participate in the parade or events, a donation would be most appreciated.
