Looking to sell your gear? Gear drop off will be on Friday, November 1st from 4 pm to 8 pm at the Mittersill Performance Center.

This award was established to honor individuals, businesses, or organizations that have made a significant contribution to the North country in promoting economic development, our natural resources in and around the notches, and a quality of life fostering a climate in which commerce, recreation, and tourism will flourish.

The Chamber’s Silent Auction will be returning this year with donated goods and services from our many Chamber partners. We invite Chamber members to assemble gift baskets or gift cards for services or merchandise that can be included in the Auction.

NORTHERN STAR AWARD

This award was established to honor individuals, businesses, or organizations that have made a significant contribution to the North country in promoting economic development, our natural resources in and around the notches, and a quality of life fostering a climate in which commerce, recreation, and tourism will flourish.

As owner of the Mt. Washington Cog Railway since 1983, Wayne has overseen the construction of a 34,000 square foot state-of-the-art maintenance facility; designed and built a new enclosed 65’ rail car providing a safe environment for Cog Railway crews to working efficiently year-round; re-railed the 3-mile route to the summit, strengthened the track system smoothing out the ride and greatly reducing the routine track maintenance; and reconstructed the Waumbek Station; all of which has enabled the Cog to operate year-round.

In partnership with the University of New Hampshire (UNH) Engineering Department he has developed an internship program where senior engineers are working with the Cog’s Engineering Department on the development of an electric locomotive.
In addition, Mr. Presby in partnership with UNH, has overseen the development of a new mobile application, MWRC-On Track. The application educates visitors about the unique environment of Mount Washington and encourage individuals to be greater stewards of this unique environment.

Mr. Presby and a former business partner owned and operated the Mount Washington Hotel and the Bretton Woods ski area (all acquired between 1993-1997) completely restoring the property, with major upgrades, enabling the hotel to remain open year-round. By the late 1990s, the hotel had become the largest resort in the Northeast.

Wayne has also made some significant contributions to environmental mitigation strategies in New Hampshire. In 2008, co-founding White Mountain Biodiesel, which for a time, was the largest biodiesel production facility in the northeast.

Teton Gravity Research founders Steve Jones, Todd Jones, and Dirk Collins began producing premier ski, snowboard, and surf films in 1995 with a commitment to showcasing the world’s top athletes and creating a company driven by their input. Eighteen years and thirty-two films later, the company continues to evolve. Transcending film, TGR has emerged as a media force in action sports culture. Throughout the Renaissance, Baroque and Classical periods in western Europe, all professional musicians were employed either by the Church or a Royal Court and were considered part of the servant class. In the spirit of the French Revolution, Beethoven was the first musician, or artist of any kind, to reject the notions of birthrights and social hierarchies and pave the way for future generations, like the 19th century German composer, Carl Reinecke, to be honored and appreciated for their talents and accomplishments alone. Edward Elgar, perhaps the culmination of this journey towards respect, was knighted at Buckingham Palace in July 1904. On this program, listeners will hear an early Piano Sonata of Beethoven’s described by one famous critic as “an exquisite little work,” and Reinecke’s melodic and lyrical Trio that showcases the oboe and horn in their best light. Finally, Sir Edward’s unabashedly romantic Piano Quintet is often lush, sometimes ghostly or serene, but always eloquent and dramatic.

Omni Mount Washington Resort is expected to present our new series, Friday Night Flights. Every month, on the fourth Friday, we invite you to explore the diverse world of wine through a rotating selection of Wine Flights. From the robust tones of Cabernet Sauvignon to the graceful expression of Chardonnay, there’s something to entice every palate. This event will take place at the Wine Bar located at The Bretton Arms and will feature a small bite pairing menu that will be curated to each of the wines featured for that specific evening.

Theatre 101 is a fun opportunity for students to experience all of the elements that go into creating a theatrical production in only 3 hours!

From “auditions” to a final presentation of a mini play, students will learn what being in a show is all about! Full of theatrical terminology, games, and hands-on exercises in design, stage management, and performance, Theatre 101 will prepare students to walk powerfully into a new production process with knowledge and confidence.
